He moved to New York after Abby died to start over again, and all that led to was binge drinking and bar fights. Pain opens up the episode, as Ray wakes up after being cold-cocked by that huge blonde dude at the end of the previous episode. Once again, Ray asks him who he is. She wants to cut all ties with Ray. Ray pleads to talk with her, saying that he can explain and fix everything, to which Vinny responds by smashing a liquor bottle over his head.

Ray is dreaming, he sees a photo of himself as a child and on the back, it is written forgive yourself, then he sees Mickey who says good luck with that. Ray wakes up when someone pours water on his face which is bloody, a man is standing above him and says that Sam Winslow needs this stop. Ray asks the guy who he is and he replies that he is the last person he is going to see if he crosses Sam again. Bunchy is running, he throws a kid off his bicycle and steals it, he chases a car with a woman in it, he knows she has his money. Terry walks into the bar in Boston for a drink, wants to go home with his ex. The woman in the car was Sandy and Bunchy drives to the hotel, he demands to have his money back, he shouts at her that he lost everything because of her, his chance at freedom, his father, his daughter; her mother took her.

Ray works to make things right with Sam, but she has her own ideas about controlling damage. Bunchy comes back to New York with some missing goods. Terry spends the night with someone from his past. Ray rebuilds his life both personally and professionally in New York City. After being rescued from a plummet into the East River by a Staten Island cop, Ray finds himself once again working for media mogul Samantha Winslow. Ray's ongoing family upheaval has taken an emotional toll, leaving him more vulnerable than ever.

With just one major scene, Alda reminds us why we love him so much, bringing humanity and depth to a character with only a few lines. While the good doctor is trying to convince Ray to stay in therapy, Bridget Donovan comes to visit her father. And Ray himself is a little scared and angry, too. He lashes out at her, and then starts crying. Just when you think Ray may get the help he needs, he dives back into his life, telling Bridget to call Mac to get him out. She does just that, as Mac is on the way into a meeting with his corrupt cop cronies. It turns out that Ferrati has smelled a rat, putting everything on hold.
